More Birds

American Goldfinch, in drab winter colors.

House Finch, bulking up for a long trip south, where it will probably spend the winter in a tallow tree in Bridge City, Texas.

Northern Flicker

  1. Is the Northern Flicker yellow, red, or some other color on its underside?

  2. The flickers out here are the red shafted variety. Most of the ones in the eastern part of the country are yellow shafted. All the ones I ever saw in Texas were yellow shafted. You can only see these colors when they fly.
