In Lonesome Dove (a good Texas to Montana story) there is a scene in which Lori is trying to get Gus to take her to San Francisco. She has built that city up in her mind, believing that if she can just get there, everything will be alright and she'll be happy.
"Life in San Francisco is still just life," Gus tells her. "If you want only one thing out of life too much, it's bound to be a disappointment."
I've always liked that line. I repeated it to myself a few times when I was in the process of moving up here. It occurred to me today that life in Montana really is still just life, but for me, it's a good life.
