Rough-legged Hawk

This one is either a female or a juvenile.  Rough-legged hawks are common winter residents in the Bitterroot Valley, but they spend their summers much further north.  The brown belly band and the white tail with a dark band help identify this hawk.  It often hovers over grassy fields, hunting rodents.  I have seen this one hovering a few times, but have never been able to get a picture.
