Backpacking Yellowstone—Southeast (3 of 5): East Yellowstone Lake; Thorofare; South Boundary Trail

Deep in the Thorofare.

 Marker to Campsite 6T1.

Cooking area at 6T1, right along Thorofare Creek.

View from tentsite at 6T1 in late afternoon (looking east toward the south prong of the Trident).

Canada geese flying up Thorofare Creek in the early morning.

The North Buffalo Fire just south of the park started out small, sending up a wispy smoke plume.

Then the wind shifted and drove the smoke into the Thorofare.

I had a layover day at 6T1, so I set out to hike a loop outside the park past Bridger Lake and the Hawks Rest Patrol Cabin.

This is the coolest park boundary marker I've seen.

 Trumpeter swans on Bridger Lake.

Hawks Rest cabin.

Bridge over the upper Yellowstone River south of Hawks Rest.

Entering Yellowstone south of the Thorofare Patrol Cabin.

Fording Thorofare Creek.

Thorofare Patrol Cabin.

Outbuilding behind the cabin.

I like this door.

Backside of the outbuilding.

Rustic.
