Subnivean Squirrel?

This red squirrel likes to hide out under the snowpack around the bird feeder.

Front door.

Be right with you.

Back door (front door at lower right).

No solicitors!

Not sure about this one: either a gang sign or the proper way to sneeze.

Traffic on the East Fork Road

Unofficial wildlife crossing.  A small herd of bighorn sheep and one mule deer.

A little out of focus (imagine you've been drinking)

More mulies getting road salt.

Run!

Winter Pics

Recently plowed.  We've gotten a lot more snow than last year.

This is how the road looked at about the same time last year.

There are shrubs under there somewhere and a squirrel hole at the base.

Hairy woodpecker.

Squirrel tracks across the river.

Annie Dillard, on Writing

“The sensation of writing a book is the sensation of spinning, blinded by love and daring.  It is the sensation of a stunt pilot's turning barrel rolls, or an inchworm's blind rearing from a stem in search of a route.  At its worst, it feels like alligator wrestling, at the level of the sentence.  At its best, the sensation of writing is that of any unmerited grace.  It is handed to you, but only if you look for it.  You search, you break your fists, your back, your brain, and thenand only thenit is handed to you.”  Annie Dillard.
