Fire season is not going gentle into that good night

"Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

During yesterday's red flag warning this new smoke plume popped up to the east.

But by late afternoon it was gone.  There are several fires, mostly small ones, now burning in the Bitterroot National Forest, and fire crews are working the ones they believe pose threats. I can't find any info on whether they hit this one or if it burned itself down, but it appears to be subdued.

It's supposed to rain today and then cool off for the rest of the week, with highs in the 60s and 70s, so that should help usher fire season over the threshold.

Meanwhile, farther north: There's a winter weather advisory for Glacier National Park.  It's not all that uncommon for this time of year.  A similar one was issued in early August of last year while I was in the Bob, but all I got was a lot of rain that made me miss the Perseid meteor shower.

  1. Wow - wish we could have some 60s or 70s - I'd even take them at night. It's still in the 90s at night here. The fun wore off a LONG time ago...I'm ready for the snow (or at least a day NOT in the 100s).

    Be safe. Fires and bears...yikes.

  2. Thanks, Penni. I'm keeping close to home until I finish this damn book--I mean until I fulfill this long-time dream.

    The rain has passed through now, and it's down to 57. Just keep thinking about how happy you'll be in a few months, when it's in the fifties in Texas and none degrees here.

  3. Ever since trying to write a villanelle, I've always associated Thomas with fire. Um...you do have work backed up on thumb drives you take with you at all times, right?

  4. Definitely. I have two memory strips, one of which I keep in my vehicle. A villanelle! You rock! I've never tried to write any formal poetry, unless you count a rap verse I made up in college to mess with a friend of mine.
