Random Thoughts From Sula

  • Is there anything that’s not easier said than done?
  • I’ve always had a conceptual problem with the phrase “meteoric rise.”  I know “meteoric” means “similar to a meteor in transient brilliance and suddenness of appearance.”  But meteors fall. They don’t rise.
  • Sometimes I buy fresh mushrooms to use to make roast or some kind of stir-fry, but then I don’t feel like making roast or stir-fry for a few days, and the mushrooms go bad.  It seems wrong to say “I have to throw away my fungus because it went bad.”
  • There’s a not-so-fine line between being competitive and being a sore loser.
  • Why is it that only really old people “fall?”  Younger folks trip and bust their ass, but one day we reach some advanced age at which people begin to say in somber tones, “He fell.”  So next time you bust your ass, be happy.

  1. Something else to ponder...how can you tell when blue cheese is bad? Does it NOT stink anymore?

  2. That's a good one, Penni. But I'll never get past the question of why people put those crumbles of stinky nastiness on top of good food. I guess I'm just not what you'd call a foodie.

    Thank you!

  3. Cliff, in regard to your first RTFS, i would have to say texting is easier done than said. my daughter can somehow communicate an entire sentence in about 2 seconds with 5 taps on the keypad. in some ways its interesting that a whole new language has developed but on the other hand...whats wrong with actually using the phone to...gasp...talk?

  4. I gotta agree, D. Kids and their lightning-fast texting thumbs have created a whole new abbreviated language. LOL . . .IDK . . .WTF! Imagine if they had to sit down and write a letter long-hand. "You want me to do what?"

  6. Cliff, just checked out your blog through The Cooking Photographer (whom I bet at the Foodbuzz festival in San Fransisco). I was pleased to see another "new" Montanan, moved here a couple of years ago. I live in Great Falls but built a cabin on 40 acres up in the Rockies (Helmville area) and I'm learning a few things along the way. Your blog will be a good resource for me.

  7. Hi Rhonda. Welcome to the blog! Laura the Cooking Photographer is great, and it was very nice of her to make me a guest blogger of sorts on her extremely popular blog.

I've been through Helmville once one my way to the Bob. That is beautiful country. Let me know if you have any questions about the rustic life.
