Tracks in the Fresh Snow

Deer. According to the guidebook Scats and Tracks of the Rocky Mountains, the tracks of mule deer and white-tailed deer are indistinguishable. They are both here.

Coyotes.  They have been more active and audible lately.  Hemingway is back next door. He said he got his bull elk and that he wanted a white tail. Judging from the recent activity of the ravens and coyotes, he got one.

Some type of bird. Of the usual suspects around here, the only ones in the guidebook are the raven and the flicker.  Neither one matched this pattern.

  2. As soon as it gets deep enough, I'll be the first one out snowshoeing. I'm still glad y'all won't be here to see my first steps.

  3. I hope Hemingway doesn't have the illusive Fat Bastard on his list of things "to get." I though I heard him saying it was on his list, but maybe I misunderstood. Seriously, we need to see pictures of the FB tracks. LDB

  4. Hemingway better watch out. When I go into the forest, the bears carry Cliff Spray. I promise I'll get out and track up the snow as soon as it's deep enough for snowshoes. It's not near deep enough now, even though it scared off the FedEx man.
